Perspective is relative-- influenced by our subconscious beliefs that shape how we make sense of the world around us.
Consider this…
Glass half full vs. half-empty?
Mocking vs. playfully flirting? Compliment or put down?
Does vulnerability equate to weakness? Or is it a testament to strength? How about dependence?
What does healthy communication look like? What kinds of topics are worth discussing? Do we confront our issues? Or sweep them under the rug?
Do we allow ourselves to feel and release our emotions? Do we keep them at bay? What does being emotional mean---- positive or negative connotations?
Guilty till proven innocent? Or vice versa?
How is support demonstrated? How should feedback be delivered?
Demanding or assertive?
Freedom or responsibility?
It doesn’t need to be black and white, and often we can have a gray area. As we think through how we go about navigating life and the scenarios that trigger us, it’s useful to be conscious about the meaning we’re assigning to specific situations and topics. The more we continue to challenge the lens from which we view life and gain varied perspective, the happier we will ultimately be.
